1st International Sal Marathon

This marathon is canceled due to the transport problem Gambia-Sal

Welcome to the Cape Verde Islands. We continue the African Marathon Challenge on the island Sal. The flight from Banjul, Gambia will take us to Sal in half an hour. The 1st International Sal Marathon will be a very special event. There will only be two days to prepare the marathon on the island. The track will not be marked continously. All participants without a GPS will run ensemble. If you want to run fast on your own, you have to bring your own GPS and record the track as a proof. Obligatory luggage will be a mobile phone and 2 liters of water. We try to organize a mobile catering like we did at the 3-country marathon in the savannah of North Togo in february 2018.

Running ensemble through the desert and the badlands on this volcanic island will be a great expierence. As a geologist I will try to tell you some of the insights of Sal's intresting volcanic history.

Get familiar with the marathon track on the interactive map. To visualize the running direction use the interactive elevation profile (upper right icon). You can download the GPX-Data or view the track on a different map application using gpsies.com.

All Details of the marathon organization like time schedule and transportation will be published on this site. To participate you have to show us a medical certificate not older than one year which shows you are fit to participate in running marathon competitions under tropical climate conditions.
